Calhoun Communications
Relocates to Sioux City
Technology Enables Buildings to Talk to
Buildings
SIOUX
CITY, IOWA February 23, 2007
— Calhoun Communications,
one of the top integrators of wireless networking
and radio broadcasting solutions, announces
the grand opening of its new office location
in the Benson Building at 705 Douglas St.
The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce will host
a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house
in Suite 540 on Tuesday, February 27th from
4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“We’re thrilled
to be a part of the Sioux City business
community,” remarked Gerald Calhoun,
company founder and president. “We’ve
been in business for over 30 years and our
move brings eleven new jobs to downtown.
We plan on making Sioux City our permanent
home.”
Calhoun Communications designs
wireless wide-area networks (WANs) for government,
schools, businesses, hotels, conventions
facilities and complex municipalities. The
company also provides quality equipment,
service and support for television and radio
broadcasting, local area networks (LANs)
and off-site data backup services for its
clients.
“Our newly renovated
location gives us professional office facilities
and makes working with some of our existing
customers much more convenient,” Calhoun
noted.
One of those customers is
Woodbury County itself, for whom Calhoun
installed three microwave links last summer.
This project enables those remote areas
to access the Starcomm interoperability
system linking public safety institutions
in Woodbury, Dakota (NE) and Union (SD)
counties.
The City of Huron, South
Dakota also contracted with the company
earlier this year to develop and install
a mobile network solution that provides
high-speed network connectivity to police
officers on patrol.
Calhoun Communications installed
and implemented an extensive high-speed
wireless network project for the Woodbury
County Information and Communication Commission
(WCICC). That system enables various city
and county facilities all over the Sioux
City area to communicate across a high speed
data network using the wireless technology.
This minimized and/o eliminated recurring
monthly lease costs for traditional copper
type connections.
The company has also been
retained to provide updates and maintenance
for these systems.
