Successful Completion of STARCOMM Multi-Service Ethernet Platform Project
July 1, 2015
In June of 2014, by a qualifications based competitive bid process, Calhoun Communications was selected as the successful bidder for the STARCOMM Multi-Service Ethernet Platform project. STARCOMM (Siouxland Tristate Area Radio Communications) provides the governance for the public safety communications network in tristate region of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. This highly complex and mission critical police, fire and emergency medical services communications network encompasses Woodbury County, Iowa, Dakota County, Nebraska and Union County, South Dakota. The Multi-Service Ethernet Platform project was an intensely complex technical project involving the replacement of end-of-life multiplexing equipment on the OC-3 Microwave backbone network of the live and operational public safety communications network. After years of research for a technical solution, Calhoun Communications utilized the TC Communications Jumbo Switch family of multi-service Ethernet products to engineer and implement a completely new, standards based Ethernet solution that included a plethora of legacy circuitry including T1s, 2-wire and 4 –wire analog, OC-3 MPLS and DS-3. The project was completed on-time and on budget with an absolute minimum disruption to the operation of the public safety communications network.
